Camote Tops: Cure for Dengue Hoax

I consider it a hoax, that email circulating in the Internet claiming boiled camote tops (sweet potato or talbos ng kamote) cured dengue for some Filipino dengue patients. The email is very similar to the email claiming juice of papaya cured the same disease in India.

Some officemates of mine said "nothing to lose" except my confidence and credibility for those advocating such unproven claims.

According to trustworthy medical websites and DOH, there really is no cure for dengue and alleged cures need further research for efficacy.

For now, consider it a hoax;
or like what most food supplements do it: No Approved Therapeutic Claim

  1. Dengue is caused by Virus... there is no cure for virus except vaccines or other medications that strengthen the immune system

  4. anonymous, probably coincidental. you can't attribute such to camote tops. there may be some other reasons. no medical study concluding this one. but it's good the child recovered

  5. no medical study because they don't want to study it because kamote is cheap.

  6. what is in the camote tops that helps in increasing the platelet levels?... and does it also increases the red blood cell count?because in dengue rbc's are lowered

  7. top the one who said this camote tops is a hox, do you have proof to back up your claim that it is a hoax? dont claim on something unless you have tried it yourself

  8. Korek... kung andyan ka na sa sitwasyon na 20T+ nalang 'yong platelet ng mahal mo sa buhay, you have to try everything. "no harm in trying." Saan ba galing yang mga medicines na yan? sa MARS ba or sa PLUTO? There is really a cure for dengue. Nature has it. Di pa lang na-discover ng mga gumagawa ng medicines. In short, wala pa sa market kaya di pa ginawang negosyo. Try Kamote tops and other nature's gifts or else...ikaw na bhala kung ano mangyari sa mahal mo sa buhay. HOAX HOAX KA DIYAN. LAMLAM KA LANG. PAGHILUM OR ELSE, PAKA!!!!

  9. anonymous, unfortunately it doesn't work that way in the medical scientific world. if you have somehting to prove, you have to prove it yourself and not the other way around to prove otherwise. sadly, as much as i want to know if there's a cure for dengue, camote tops is really a HOAX. stop wasting your time on this...mangamote lang kayo and putting your faith on something that don't deserve it

  12. anonymous, similar to dengue, there's no cure for stupidity. ignorance and arrogance can be cured by opening ones mind though...

  13. by the way, thE DOH is studying tawa-tawa to which preliminary findings point to its effectiveness against dehydration, the usual cause of dengue deaths. beneficial to dengue does not mean it's a cure. DOH is not involved in your imaginary conspiracy theory

  14. Pharmaceutical companies are paying DTI and DOH to label herbal products as "Hindi ito gamot or No approved therapeutic claims". But there are already thousands of herbal users that were cured by these herbal whatever and they are ready to testify that they were healed without any use of prescription drugs. DOH and FDA are already involved with what you said conspiracy theory. They have already allowed thousands of chemicals that will be found in foods to make us sick. Ignorance? Try consulting legal herbal doctors. And lastly, science will never be final. Even pluto has been recently found that it is not a planet. Time will come that science will prove that camote tops is a remedy for dengue...

  17. Maybe the camote is not a "cure" in the strict sense of the word, kasi nga viral ang dengue, but maybe it has properties that can coagulate the blood in order to prevent bleeding and probably increase the platelet count, kagaya ng Vitamin C, folate at Vit B.

  18. Lol obviously pharma company wouldn't want camote tops to be a cure as anyone can just plant it. IT'S FREE.
Why would ANY pharma company or anyone want to study something without earning?! There is no medicine cure for dengue, only the natural cure. Pharma companies are still studying the nature's way for a cure and make a duplicate of something that can EARN.
Fyi, i've known a lot of people cured by taua taua and camote tops.

  19. You have done a great disservice to truth and endangering lives with gross misinformation which I will not counter point for point because informed people when they or someone they know contract dengue fever-- camote tea is the simplest of cures to suggest. It is our family and friends cure of choice. To say there are no anti-viral medicines or remedies, shows ignorance of your knowledge and dependence on contemporary medicine desire to hold the public enslaved to their often very toxic drugs and vaccines. One tip I give all who read this, that is if it is even posted, I grow camote in my veggie garden mostly for the leaves and drink a cup of camote tea or papaya leaf tea every morning for breakfast. Camote tea is not toxic so there is nothing to lose in drinking camote tea in health or certainly to combat dengue fever. My names Nicasio Martinez and you will see many links leading to my wordpress blog if you add 2013 to any search such as Doctor Sanath Hettige 2013 which you will find information about papaya leaf extract, or dengue fever natural cures 2013.
